Like most girls growing up in Australia in the '90s, I wanted Catriona Rowntree's job ...

About-Image.jpg

Travelling the world and getting paid to do it? Yep, that Getaway gig was the ultimate dream.

But once realising I would make a terrible hard-news television journalist halfway through university, and falling head over heels in love with magazines after a short work experience stint at CLEO magazine in Sydney, my path to features writing was set in stone.

After close to a decade of editing and writing about boy bands, puberty, dating, fashion and everything in between for some of Australia's top magazines, I took the leap into tourism PR and spent three years pitching and pimping Queensland out to Australia's best travel writers and bloggers.

In 2013 I said goodbye to the 9-5 to follow my dream of being a freelance travel writer and have been flitting around the world ever since. I am a columnist and features writer for Escape, and contribute to AFAR, Australian Traveller, International Traveller, Jetstar magazine, Holidays for Couples, Vacations and Travel, Flight Centre's Travel Ideas, Collective, and more.

I am also the editor of Tourism and Events Queensland's consumer travel blog and run a copywriting and content consultancy called The Devil Wears Flip Flops – helping business owners to translate their message into snappy prose and products that sell. (And give boring or clichéd copy a swift roundhouse kick to the head. Chuck Norris style.)

AND NOW...

The (slightly) more professional version:

Celeste Mitchell is a freelance travel writer based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.

As a journalist and media professional with 15 years experience, Celeste is adept at penning prose that will leave you daydreaming, laughing, and clicking on the 'buy now' button. A magazine editor-cum-whip-smart wordslinger and business pimp, Celeste has worked on staff for a variety of glossy publications, and provided writing and consulting services to high-profile travel clients such as Tourism and Events Queensland, Tourism Australia and Topdeck Travel.

In 2013, she launched her copywriting consultancy, The Devil Wears Flip Flops, and simultaneously embarked on a freelance travel writing adventure that would see her filing stories for Escape, AFAR, Australian Traveller, International Traveller, Vacations and Travel, Jetstar magazine, and many more.
